ImTranslator Editor Tutorial

The ImTranslator Editor consists of the following parts: source text window, target window, back translation window, menus, toolbars, and the tools panel with the shortcuts to the main language tools.
- The ImTranslator has the following toolbars and menu:
Copy – Copy all contents of the window.
Paste – Paste all contents to the window.
Cut – Cut all contents of the window.
Delete – Clear all contents of the window.
Note: To work with selected text please use desired command at your browser’s Edit menu, hot keys CTRL+C (Copy), CTRL+V(Paste), CTRL+X(Cut) or the drag-n-drop feature.
Text Size – Change the size of the text
Dictionary – Look up words of the window.
Spelling – Spell-check all contents of the window. -
Keyboard – Input text in multiple languages.
Print – Print the contents of the windows.
Depending on the selection, you can print out the original text, translation or bilingual text.
Email All – Email all contents of the window.
Depending on the selection, you can email the original text, translation or both.
The menu and toolbars are duplicated in the target text window with additional options:
Direction – Selection of language pairs. -
Switch Direction – Change the translation direction of a selected language pair. -
Back translation – Translate the target text back to the original language.
The back translation option is checked by default. You may disable the back translation window if you don’t want to re-translate the target text back to the original language. Just remove the check mark next to the back translation icon.
Note: This feature has been added to ImTranslator at the requests of our users. The “back translation” is far from being the proper way to check the quality of translation due to the asymmetric sentence structure in different languages. However, this feature may give you additional benefit to make sure your text is understandable.
Translate – Translate source text. -
Special characters – Input of accented or special characters.
The translation toolbar provides the following options:
Resize Bar – Change the size of the ImTranslator window. -
Virtual Keyboard – Bring up virtual keyboard for multilingual text input. -
Multilingual Dictionary – Bring up dictionary to look up words or word combinations.
Auto function, if checked, – opens Dictionary if a single word is entered for translation. -
Spellchecker – Enable spellchecker.
Auto function, if checked, – automatically invokes spellchecker if spelling errors are detected during translation. -
Russian Decoder – Bring up the decoder window to convert the Russian text.
Auto functions, if checked, automatically perform the following actions:
- during translation from Russian language automatically determines the text in Russian and convert it, if needed, into Cyrillic Windows encoding.Note: Detect the following encodings: KOI-8, DOS, Mac, ISO, UTF-8, UNICODE, Russian Translit and convert to Cyrillic Windows.
- during translation to Russian language automatically converts the Russian text into Latin characters (transliterate).
Note: The transliteration module uses a conversion algorithm adapted as much as possible to the common transliteration rules.
The tools panel provides the resize bar and the shortcuts to the main language tools:
